I want to attach amine group to glass surface. For that I treated the phosphate glass with HCl so that I got Hydroxyl group on it, then I used APTES to get amine group attached to the glass. I used RAMAN to examine the attachment .
Is this the appropriate way to examine that? And if thats right should I find amine peaks on the Raman spectroscopy because I did not find prominent peak on RAMAN for the amine. I found small changes only from the original one. I tried to put glass for 15 minutes in APTES to get this attached well.
If my way is wrong how can I estimate that in another way?
You could use XPS.
You could use FTIR.
You could do a chemical titration of the deposited amine and follow the uptake from solution with UV/VIS.
I guess you get only a mono-layer of amine. In that case you would not expect much Raman because it is only a thin layer. Take long measurements of the treated and untreated glass and subtract the two spectra.
