I recently joined the Institute of Endimic Diseases research team and I would like to establish international collaboration on scientific research mainly on vector-borne diseases or basic entomology, but I do not know where to start ?
The easiest method is to join a collaboration that already exists, preferably working in NE Africa. While harder, you can establish your own by choosing researchers who have worked, or are interested in working, with the vectors or country. Others who simply have good or new ideas might make it a team that creates new and better solutions for Sudan. It is probably best to have some members from NGO's, government agencies, Foundations and others who can supply better institutional and financial assistance. Probably you will need to combine these two approaches, having a team that you work with more closely, but being a member of a larger collaborative program. Now the hard work begins, putting all of this into motion, but keep your eye on the main goals of what you want to accomplish. If these are not clearly written out, with some room for innovation, you need to start your 'team' on this step.
This social network is a great place to start. You should identify experts on your field or institutions developing some research related. After that, try to set up some meeting and see how things go. I really don't think much more is needed. Everyone is interested in collaborating.
Linkedin, Researchgate are good places to start. Participating in conferences and workshops based on tropical health as vector-borne diseases and entomology are your interested areas would certainly help you to build up the network. When you start publishing abstracts etc. this would eventually happen. Joining relevant associations and mentorship schemes would benefit too.
