The real goal is to attach non-functionalized polyethylene glycol onto MWCNTs. I thought I could achieve this by linking PEG's -OH group with an amino-functionalized MWCNT by epichlorohydrin. I'm looking for a effective way (a single-step method, if available) to functionalize the surface of a MWCNT with an amino group. I'm also open to alternative methods for non-functionalized PEG-MWCNT attachment.
Note: PEG coating doesn't seem useful for further experiments.
A common method is to oxidize the nanotubes and then react them with a diamine.

Instead of using thionyl chloride to convert the carboxylic acid to an acid chloride (which is air sensitive), we have had good success using an activator such as EDC or DCC.
