It sounds that you made the problem more complicated than it should be. If you analyze VOCs, choice a good column, such as 60m DB-VRX, and run full scan MS. It can get your results nicely. Why you want to run MS/MS?

I would say also to look at a good column. I did these type of analyses on a 60m PE1 with a 1 um film thickness with an EI-source on a magnetic sector instrument. From the EPA compendium methods TO-15, TO-17 you do not need accurate mass for the determination of the VOC's, it may help but is not needed. These can also be run on a standard quadrupole instrument with great success without MS/MS mode. It also depend in what phase, gas, liquid or solid you will be working in? Thus without good sample preparation it will not matter what type of instrument you will be working with.

i agree with the written above. first you must define your sampling procedure - depending of course on the origin of the VOCs and their phase. next step define your sampling system, headspace analysis or else, define hoe you will be introducing the VOCs, do you need to do pre-concentration (SPME, TD tubes....). eventually a system with the most appropriate column for your needs (to you know what you are looking for? or unknowns?) you can get great data of your sample from scan analysis on quadruple systems. if you have more details on what you exactly need i can try being more focused

1. Exaction method is SPME for the headspace of bacterial culture media. I exposed SPME to the headspace for 10 min at 40C.

2. GC-triple Quad, Shimadzu TQ8030 is the instrument

3. Autosampler (1min 250C)

4. I am looking for VOCs (none targeted analysis)
