Hi guys, I am wondering can we do FIA on the Masslynx?
It is a good function, but I can not find it for masslynx?
If masslynx does not have this funciton, I am wondering it is possible to install Analyst for this waters Micromass Quattro Micro API MS? Do not like masslynx.

Don't quite understand your question so excuse me if I give an irrelevant response...
I assume you are asking about the software... If your system can be used as a detector for (liquid) chromatography and has routines for that, then use that function when you couple the hardware to the FIA.
You can put a dead volume between your LC and your MS system and run the 'chromatogram' in FIA mode. It would be 1 or 2 min long.
Moreover, you can acquire MS spectrums as FIA directly on the TUNE page. Then you will see your results as a chromatogram

To Javier, can you tell me where is the FIA mode in masslynx, I can not find. in Chemstation, it is easy to find it. so, I guss it might have a different name for masslynx?

Sorry for my late answer. You have to use masslynx in order to do so. You have to infuse your sample and acquire spectrums. If not, then you have to create a method with a dead union between the LC and the MS system.

You have to put your sample in the reservoir A or B and then start to infuse the sample. Then, in the tune page there is a place where it is displayed Acquire>start>and there is a new window where you can put the mass range and time duration of your acquisition. This is one way of performing FIA analysis. Results are displayed as a chromatogram. A file is generated as it had been done by direct injection. Then, as I told you before, you can run samples without a chromatographic column. Some colleagues have worked with similar set-up.

Do you use thermo LC?
I used agilent MSD and ABS MS, there they can edit a FIA table to optimise some MS parameters.

Do you have a waters based MS system, right?
If so, you should have two places where to infuse a calibrant or even a sample... it's common in all waters MS systems... If you don't have, then you should put a dead volume between your LC and the MS system for FIA analysis. Your analysis won't take longer than 1-2 minutes, depending on your LC.
I have an Acquity UPLC and a Waters MS system, all under Masslynx. However, FIA analysis is not thought to optimise parameters... I do not know which is the main goal of your FIA analysis... If you need further info, email me and let's see how can I help you.

yes, we have waters Micro Mass and agilent 1100 HPLC with it.
but I am new to the software Masslynx. yes, we can do direct infuse through the syringe pump and LC injection without column.
because I used FIA on chemistation and Analyst, it is a very good fuction for optamise MS parameters, that what I was going to do it.
so, what do you usually use FIA for?

Sorry for my late answer. I completely forgot to open RG. I only use FIA for infusing my compounds and optimise MS paramters for my compounds. However, if you are able to filter all data generated in a MS instrument, you can perform a very fast qualitative analysis of your samples via FIA. I usually use MATLAB and Python for that (but not in FIA). Quantitation is more problematic due to ion supression and other MS concerns...
