I already prepared 2 catalysts. First, Pd/Mg1-xCex3+O . Second Pd/Mg1-xCex4+O.
How can distinguish between them, which different in Ce species only? the result of XRD & FTIR are same. Furthermore, the XPS results also same for differnt Ce species,
I read in the journals the XPS results should be differnt.
only TPR-H2 analysis gives me different result between Ce species.
i used XPS spectra to detect the element composition especially Pd element cause it prepared in low conc. 1%
Plz, if u have the answer , provide me the reference.

Based on your XPS data regarding on the Ce3+ / Ce4+ existences is hard to distinguish between them. I suggest to treat the catalyst after catalytic reaction with inert gas in order to prevent the re-oxidation of Ce3+ from your Pd/Mg1-xCex4+O that was happened in handling this sample.

The area percentage of Ce4+ on the surface of the specimens treated with cerium was calculated using the expression given by Yu and Li [21]:
Ce4+%=u‴%/14x100
where u‴ is the area fraction of the satellite appearing at 916.7 eV in relation to the total area of the Ce 3d peak.
