I am doing titration between a Eu(III) macrocyclic complex (soluble in methanol) and taurine. However, taurine does not dissolve well in methanol. I have to avoid using water, so I cannot make my stock taurine solution in water. How can I improve the solubility of taurine in methanol? Or what other non-aqueous solvent can I use to make taurine stock solution which later on can be diluted with methanol?
Taurine is a water soluble compound and is insoluble in methanol. The presence o sulfonic acid group takes the compound into methanol in alkaline conditions.
1. Try solubilization of taurine in methanol at little alkaline pH (Add KOH or NaOH in methanol) ant try dissolving taurine 2. If some water will do then dissolve taurine in water and adjust to 50-80% methanol as final concentration.
I detected Taurine by HPLC according to AOAC International method (2006) and in that case taurine working standard solutions were prepared in water.
