I am using two steel sheet materials for carrying deep drawing operations using tailor welded blanks. It is becoming difficult to measure the laser weld properties since the weld is very narrow. Some researchers are analysing with the help of hardness measured across the weld. Is there any other method of analysing such as testing a longitudinal weld ? In that case what is the standard tensile specimen?
Three Point Bending
In this test, a specimen with a flat cross-section is placed on two parallel supporting pins. The loading force is applied in the middle by means loading pin. The supporting and loading pins are mounted in a way, the axis parallel to the pin axis. By using this method, the welding strength can be determined.
I'm assuming, since your application is deep drawing, that you are having difficulty measuring elongation in the weld due to strain localization and the narrow weld zone. There have been many articles on the use of photogrammetry techniques to measure strain in the various zones of a weld. I would suggest looking at this technique.

Indentation test and digit image correlation technique are OK to measure the properties of narrow weld line. You can reference the two papers as attached.

In case of single overlap configuration have a look at KS2-Specimens or single overlap impact test specimens

Thank you very much. I referred to your paper and accordingly evaluated the laser-welded material properties.
Now I am in need to evaluate the TIG-welded material properties. Since the width of the specimen is 1 mm in a laser welded miniature specimen, it is not possible to use the same ASTM standard miniature specimen for TIG-welded TWB materials having a weld width of about 3 mm. Any ideas or suggestions in this matter is welcome.

You can go for DIC system which will give you global as well as local properties of welded tensile test specimens.
if you are having optimum set of parameters, than produce the welded joints using them.
Use DIC system to determine few properties of the weld and other zones. This will work for laser welded blanks.
It a very expensive setup but you can contact few consultancy for same.

It can be used ASTM E8/E8M-16A and the sample size was 40mm×5mm. optimize welding parameters and use EDS and EBSD for weld characterization study. Y-shaped geometry should be avoided during narrow gap and V-shaped filling pass could contribute to the formation of good joint without defect less segregation may found.
