I would like to produce biodiesel from fungi, therefore I would like to detect lipids producing from fungi, what is a suitable technique for detecting lipids?
Extract your grown fungus(cultured material) with hexane or pet-ether.Evaporate hexane/pet-ether through rotary,you will get an oily semisolid extract ,study its IR spectra . Compare the spectra obtained with the IR spectra of oil( obtained from plant sources).

Muhammad's right, extract culture with hexane or petroleum ether, evaporation in steam-route will give an idea of triglyceride content produced.
