However, this new system is not suitable for experiments that require continuous monitoring of physiological parameters, for example during the period of switching from normoxia to hypoxia. Time-course experiments can be performed easily using samples in separate bags that are harvested at different time points. If the incubation condition needs to be changed during the process of hypoxia, for example to add agonists or antagonists at different times, re-gassing would be required. The vacuum bag system is most suitable for experiments where all additions to the medium are made at time 0 and measurements made only at one time point.
