Although surface modification of polypropylene membranes mostly has been done by plasma techniques, I can not access to this technology easily.
Hence, I want to modify PP via photoinitiated methods. However I don't know for conducting my experiments which method can be more effective.
UV-initiated graft polymerization or gamma irradiation?

I would go for UV initiation. However, still it depends on the photoinitiator.
Furthermore, I would do the grafting under N2 atmosphere!
UV initiator process will be easier. Experiment set-up you can do easily for UV-photo-initiation method.
I suggest you to conduct UV initiation using benzophenone initiator. Put your polymer into acetone-dissolved benzophenone (10 mg ml–1) for 1 min. After drying in a vacuum chamber for 1 h, the benzophenone-adsorbed polypropylene should be immersed in aqueous solutions containing various chemicals you want to modify. Irradiate the substrate by UV from a 500 W high-pressure mercury lamp (MS UV, Korea) for 15 min. Unreacted monomers, benzopinacol and excess benzophenone could be removed by thorough washing with acetone and water. Finally, the modified substrate should be soaked with water overnight to remove any remaining acetone and non-covalently attached polymers.
