How can i choose the value of time period in abaqus explicit ?

i' m traying to model an RC beam-column joint in abaqus software by using the explicit solver, my model is composed of two steps :
step-1 (for the axial load in the column and it's propagated in the next step for obtained a constant load in step-2),
step-2 (for the lateral displacement at beam's end surface wich equal 65 mm).
my question is how can i choose the value of the time period for both steps in order to obtain a good results.
