I have the output files from the DSC-TGA analysis of an inorganic salt. Could any one can comment or share files related to the calculation of melting point, latent heat, and specific heat from the DSC-TGA curves and excel sheet?
I've tried to use OriginLab software to calculate the area of the peak in DSC cuve, which should be related to phase change latent heat.
We can make a DSC curve (W/g versus oC) when we copy all DSC data in OriginLab. Press "Analysis" - "Mathematics" - "integrate...". We could use this tool to calculate the peak area, and transport it to the latent heat by the followed equation.
ΔH (kJ/kg) = Area (W oC/g) / Temperature increasing velocity (oC/s)
In my experience, I have tried to open TGA/DSC files with excel / origin. In fact, Origin and excel can only plot the data that released by the machine, but can not calculate the melting point, latent heat, etc.
The solution: File must be opened by using the machine software. The software is already has facilities of calculation. In my case, I'm using a TGA/DSC 1 machine with the Mettler Toledo software.
