A thin ceramic plate of silicon carbide is impacted by a blunt cylindrical (4340 Steel) projectile. The plate is of the dimensions 100 mm x 100 mm x 10 mm. The steel projectile has a diameter of 30 mm and a length of 23 mm. the objective is to obtain damage/failure velocities in the thin ceramic target and finally draw a graph between damage velocity and projectile velocity.
Please suggest me an equation or any other method to find the damage front velocity for the said problem.The projectile velocity is ranging from 100 to 1000 m/s.

as reference study and want to validate numerical model in ANSYS AUTODYN for Silicon carbide. What I need is how to calculate the Damage velocity vs projectile velocity graph as they have presented in their above study.
I am working on development of better armor plates for military vehicle.

I think the computer software CONWEP may be useful for your study. The Manual of the software has some literature about penetrating projectiles.
