I was looking for an example calculation on how to calculate area per particle (nm^2) after doing Langmuir-Blodgett deposition. For example, if I have spherical silica particles whose diameter is 400 nm, concentration (16 mg/ml) and a trough area of 22350 mm^2?
Most of the surface area for a catalyst is inside the catalyst. The BET method is the most widely accepted method to measure surface area:

The particle diameter is not usually a particularly important parameter to determining catalyst surface area
You state you're wanting to calculate area per particle, so all the stuff about the LB trough is irrelevant - it's only relevant if you want a specific surface area (usually in m2/g). The surface area of a single 400 nm diameter particle is (pi/4)*d2 or approximately 125663 nm2. Do you need to rephrase your question?
