I'm a first time at Blending polymer.
I will make a Semi-IPN structure with PMMA and PIB in toluene.
and I will add the AIBN(Azobisisobutylonitrile) for initiator.
Is there any method or condition for this experiment?
For example, Temperature, additives ratio, another additives, RPM of stirrer or Gas reflux etc.
PIB (polyisobutylene) is sensitive to polymer degradation through a free-radical mechanism. Since you suggest using AIBN, this should be a watch-out for you.
"The temperature, additives ratio, another additives, RPM of stirrer or Gas reflux" All of these reaction condition you mentioned, i think you should figure out the purpose of blending polymers at first, the interaction between the two polymers, physical or chemical crosslink ? If it is physical blend, i think the room temperature is enough on the condition that the two polymers is miscible, if it is chemical crosslink, there is always a crosslink temperature, and the additives or gas is necessary or not. I suggust you read more reference.
As you are interested in making semi-IPN, first make crosslinked polyisobutylene in film form. Soak the film with MMA and AIBN (Approx. 1wt% of MMA) mixture for particular time so that sufficient MMA (along with AIBN) uptake is there inside the film. Weigh the film before and after soaking. Now place it in between two metal plates and keep in oven for 6-8 h at about 60 degreeC. Alternatively, the film can be cured in pressurized chamber. The product is semi-IPN. You can do also with uncrosslinked PIB film and soak with MMA, AIBN and crosslinker by follwing the protocol.
