(1975), Wicks (1958), Gregory and Scott (1969), Beggs (1972), Nguyen (1975), Chen (1979), Mukherjee (1979), Hashizume (1983), Bhattacharyya (1985), Adritsos (1986), and Gokcal (2005).
2. I would also like to know what software is the usual choice for plotting of graphs for published papers.

If the article doesn't say where the data are, all you can do is contact the authors to ask. For very old articles, it is quite likely that no one knows where the data are anymore.
As for plotting, some articles will say what software was used for analysis, and that is probably also what was used for plotting. (But, again, for some of those very old papers, the plots were probably made by hand.) But in general, any good statistical software can make just about any plot. So unless you have a specific need, it's hard to give specific recommendations.
