I am in educational technology area in which we integrate technology to better achieve learning outcomes. But with the plethora of open source multimedia (e.g., videos, graphics, podcasts, vlogs, etc.) available on the Internet, instructors do not always take the time or may be constrained by time to properly assess such material for gender segregation and other culturally sensitive issues. Consequently, students, who are becoming more and more very visual learners, are presented with materials that sometimes promote gender bias and segregation that can "kill" their motivation and creativity. I did a conference presentation on culturally responsive ICT integration that I hope would be helpful in informing your topic from a technology perspective.

I would expect this to be a very problematic topic on which to do a good study, considering all of the variables and ways in which such a study might be biased, one way or the other, even quite unintentionally. Anecdotal 'evidence' can be even more misleading, though sometimes it may give you an idea as to what to study. As a statistician, I should be wary of anecdotes as being highly unreliable, but I'm going to give one anyway. :-)
My only experience in gender segregation came in a European history course my freshman year of college in 1971. The university had a men's college and a women's college, but by the time I got there, classes had almost all become coed. I just had that one class full of guys and it felt very artificial. Although it was the best history class I ever had, because it was very analytical, it seemed perhaps a bit stifling. Perhaps that was because my high school was not segregated. If we could all learn to be comfortable with everyone else, regardless of gender, race, what city or village we call home, or any other artificial restriction, then I expect that the free flow of ideas, and cooperative, innovative thinking, would be improved. That history class was really good, but it had to have been as good or better if it weren't gender segregated.

I really respect your suggestion and your experience Mr James. It is quite true it needs a lot hardwork to study in depth why because it is very problematic topic.
