Ductility of materials may be observed by doing some sort of tests, such as bending, Impact test etc. For more information look at ASM Handbook, vol 8- mechanical testing and evaluation, section> bending Ductility test or impact test.

Hi Swathi, I agree with Farhad, there are different methods, but in metals the most common is the tensile test. I recommend you take a look in the book of Dieter, "Mechanical Metallurgy"
Ductility is usually defined as the ability of a material to be deformed plastically before the failure point under uniaxial stress. As other people mentioned, it usually is determined from tensile test. As you mentioned that your question is related to car industry, you should consider that some people in the industry assume that some terms such as ductility, toughness and impact are the same or similar, but they are not and the parameters that influence on these properties are different too.
