Since the maximum temperature attained by the working fluid in reciprocating engines will be sustained for a fraction of time, is there any chance of implementing boilers, heat exchangers for higher effinciency?
why not. the can be implemented for reciprocating engines to utilize the energy that would have been released to the surrounding in the combustion chamber, thereby increasing the heat input.
obviously heat exchangers can be implemented but its depending on which engine you are using - CI OR SI engine..in the case of CI,high compression ratios are required so maximum temperature has to be obtained. if heat exchangers are used in CI engines it won't be possible to get maximum suitable temperature so efficiency will decrease.as in case of SI engines, higher temperatures lead to detonation and knocking so heat exchangers are more effective here.i am not getting any significance of implementing boiler in reciprocating engines.
