It has been observed that predatory journals use false doi. Authors get confused that journals providing doi to an article is a genuine one. but in practical it is not so. it is, therefore, important to have such information that doi should be verified before submission of the manuscript.

and insert this or 10.1021/bi00121a014 in submit box on the site https://www.doi.org/ and you are redirected to the original paper and website.So, the DOI should always look like 10.1021/bi00121a014 and/or https://doi.org/10.1021/bi00121a014 (see also https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_object_identifier).

PS. Recent papers not always work since the system needs a bit of time before registration and the system behind it works properly. So, check a paper out of the archive of the journal you are interested in.
You can verify doi (digital object identifier) of a publication by putting title of the paper on google search using
sci hub.
