According to Kavulavu et al. (2022), one of the major issues facing blood transfusion services at a regional blood transfusion center in Western Kenya is understaffing. Kenya is a third-world country, as is the Philippines. How can a third-world country address this kind problem?
Understaffing is a prevalent issue in the healthcare sector, and blood banks are not exempt from this problem. This is typically brought about by the overseas migration of Filipino healthcare workers. Burnout, which essentially results from things like low wages, delayed benefits, insufficient staffing, excessive workload, and unstable employment, is the typical issue that prompts them to migrate. Thus, it is imperative that this issue be resolved as doing so would eventually strengthen the national healthcare system.
In the article "Addressing the Burnout and Shortage of Nurses in the Philippines," Alibudbud (2023) discussed how important it is to mobilize current resources and enhance legislation to address burnout among these healthcare workers effectively. As such, improving the working conditions of healthcare workers in the Philippines may be achieved by providing higher wages, promptly granting benefits such as hazard pay, and securing open government regular positions to efficiently use the available resources. Implementing these measures will thus significantly improve working conditions and effectively address the problem of understaffing that the health industry is facing.

As the Philippines is a third-world country, it is experiencing understaffing in its health care system. An example of this scenario will be the article “Addressing the Burnout and Shortage of Nurses in the Philippines." Alibudbud (2023): Nurses are not the only ones affected by this problem; the staffing in blood banks is also affected. Based on “Overworked, underpaid health workers are walking away as Delta ravages PH” by Bong Magsambol (2021), one of the reasons stated here is that our health care workers are underpaid, and some are not paid on time, so a lot of workers leave the country to find jobs in other countries, which can pay them more, so that they can provide for and give their families a better life. So, combining the two articles’ ideas, having higher salaries offered will somehow help the shortage of our medical workers. Blood bank staff, nurses, physical therapists, etc. shall be paid on time, for they also have a life wherein they need to provide for their families.
