Trypanosomes overcome the immune system by mocking. That is to say, when antibodies attached to the surface antigen of the trypanosoma, it will immediately slough its membrane which become attached to the red blood cells of the host. The phagocytic cells will then swallow the host red blood cell resulting in severe anaemia due to loss of RBCs.
