The width of the XRD peaks is utilized to calculate the SFE. However it is not a direct method. The XRD data determines the microstrain and stacking fault probability. These can be determined by using MAUD software. These acts as input for calculation of SFE [refer eq1 in Rafaja, D., C. Krbetschek, C. Ullrich, and S. Martin.
