Optical security can be manged at physical and switching layers. The authentication is an important security phase for guaranteeing QoS provision. To provide authentication service for all incoming traffic, authentication process must be implemented at the ingress edge node to assure the appropriate traffic transfer and QoS requirements including traffic loss and end-t--end delay.

Optical security can be implemented using the control plane and data plane over optical switched network. In optical label switching networks such as GMPLS or all optical switched network, security service, especially can be managed using the label switching content including ingress and egress edge node as well as other information.
