To replace the high cost & formulated drugs, functional food materials exactly replaces the same. But how for nutraceuticals exactly equivalent to it??
theya re not the same, the neutraceutical is equivalen to a pharmaceutical (pill, dropd, etc). Functional food must be food, and must be ingested as a part of a "normal" diet. It must have bioactive componnets that may enhance health but must be in the food (added or naturally). Hope it helps
A functional food is a food that imparts some sort of nutritional benefit. Nutraceutical is a relatively recent term that was coined because people don't like the word "chemical" (phytochemical) involved in health-related items because it scares the layperson. So, you could have something considered a functional food (i.e. a fruit juice high in antioxidants) and also have the polyphenols responsible for the antioxidant capacity extracted, purified, and sold as a nutraceutical. I think the official definition of what constitutes a nutraceutical differs slightly depending on what side of the pond you are on, but I believe Markus is correct regarding nutraceuticals and supplements.

As already stated here, the legal definition should be separated from the scientific one. Legally, the thin line depends on where you ask your question. scientifically, nutraceutiaclas are the active ingredients exerting the physiological effects and functional foods are the vehicles through which the nutraceuticals are delivered to the consumer. if you like these can be equated with pharmaceuticals concepts like API and dosage form.
The main focus of both functional food and nutraceuticals is to improve health and reduce disease risk through prevention. Any food or food ingredient that may provide a health benefit beyond the traditional nutrients (vitamins and minerals) it contains is termed as functional food. Functional foods are the products resembling traditional foods but possessing established physiological benefits. Nutraceuticals on the other hand are commodities derived from foods, but are used in the medicinal form of pills, capsules or liquids and again render demonstrated physiological benefits. Nutraceuticals cover dietary supplements, fortified foods that are enriched with nutrients not natural to the food such as orange juice with added calcium, functional foods, etc. Functional foods and nutraceuticals are used interchangeably in literature and in certain parts of the world. There are many functional foods and nutraceuticals that are becoming increasingly available in the marketplace, but there is a challenge for the functional food producers because such products should address the issue of sensory acceptability which is not necessary for the nutraceutical or pharmaceutical products.
