I am going through literature on Impact mechanics. I could see in some of the literature the Johnson-Cook (J-C) Model Plastic & Damage Model were used.

However, at some places,  Hillerborg's Fracture Energy Criterion has been invoked in conjunction with the J-C Model plastic & damage model.

  • Could someone please help me understand how we could decide when to invoke Hillerborg fracture energy criterion while simulating impact problems?

  • How Hillerborg's Fracture Energy Criterion could be invoked in conjunction with the J-C Model plastic & damage model in ABAQUS.

I need your valuable assistance will help me in getting my work done.
