Hi,
I am preparing a short popularised study on the topics related to naval architecture for common public. I am trying to find who can be considered as the first naval architect through the human history (after Noah :)) and also some historical fact about him/her. It would be good to know who is the first ancient naval architect in different ancient countries as well (Greece, China, Egypt, Babylon, India, etc.)

Major naval architectural work of Archimedes (beyond his conributions to ship's buoyancy and stability) is the design of Syracuse, a huge ship with sails designed and built on order of Herion II (abt. 240BC). In Odyssea of Homer, there is a fairly good description of the boat of Odysseus. You may find a brief outline in my book on Ship Design, Appendix D (published Springer).
