While handling climate data, we come across those above-mentioned terms quite often. But, my concept is not much clear regarding this. Which kind of data do we get from GCM historical run?
Hi there!!! Subharthi Sarkar Hindcast is a way of testing a mathematical model. Hindcasting usually refers to a model integration of a historical period where no observations have been assimilted. Reanalysis is a data assimilation project which aims to assimilate historical observational data spanning an extended period, using a single consistent assimilation (or "analysis") scheme throughout.
An example of hindcasting would be entering climate forcings (events that force change) into a climate model. If the hindcast showed reasonably-accurate climate response, the model would be considered successful.
