hi I am looking for recent publications on models that simulate individual way the evolution of the tropical forest ie the way a tree enters a stand, grows up and dies?
Growth and Yield models for complex tropical forests are yet to appear in Science. Simple, empirical approaches are well described by Vanclay (1994, 1995). Conventional methodologies for simple forests like forest plantations address well tree growth and mortality by competition. Tree recruitment in forest has been modeled using probabilistic models. Succession models adress much better the tree species appearing in forests but for tropical forests are also empirical at this time. What tree species appear in a forest depends on many variables most often difficult to measure and predict. How a tree grows, matures and dies is better predicted than what tree species would appear in a tropical forest. Even though tree mortality has been addressed well by most often probabilistic, and quite rare by simple deterministic models (competition). So refer to Vanclay (1994, 1995) for growth and yield models and Lamprecht (1990) for silviculture of tropical forests in order to better understand your queries.
