Why is not used of water for bioassays tests for search of pesticides in lab? For example we used of acetone as control for bioassay tests in studied of plant essential oils for effect on pest but We do not use of water. Why?
If you used acetone to dissolve the compound you intend to test so acetone is the solvent control in this case. If you used water instead, then your control should be water
In your expeririment you certainly used acetone to disolve Essential oil; so, It is normal for you to use acetone as négative control
In the case where crude essential oil is used in bioassay tests , distilled water should be used as negative control
Conclusion: The negative control in an experiment, depend on which solvent is used to disolve the bioactive ingredients (essential oil, pesticides, extract.....) in Bioassay tests
