There are a few kits out there that extract total RNA. Look at what is available through Qiagen or Thermo-Fisher. Check to make sure the kits are compatible with plant tissue (they usually have a side note about a modified protocol for plant tissue). If you don't want to use a kit, you can lysis the cells first and then do a Trizol extraction.
When I have done total RNA extraction from plant tissue in the past, I make sure to crush my frozen tissue in a microcentrifuge tube and create a slurry with the cell lysis solution. You can find small plastic mortars that are designed for microcentrifuge tubes.
A CTAB extraction method is cost effective and the quality of RNA concentration is also excellent. I am almost using CTAB method for both RNA and DNA extracting from plant leaf. Good luck!
