I really encounter a problem in determining the scale items in the questionnaire. My research is about the effect of using humorous videos on English idiom learning. The participants will be female students in forth year in bachelor's degree.
I have decided to have three variables ( motivation, understanding and remembering ). However, I still encounter a problem since I do not know which is the suitable item and some doctors recommend me to add more scales.
The previous researches in literature have not shown the scale items and even the questionnaire itself.
So, what do u recommend me?

It seems that there are two issues concerned in your questionnaire design: how to write items that measure the 3 latent traits of your interest, and at what quality the items should be to yield reliable response.
So my suggestions are as follows:
1. You may refer to literature to examine how each one of the three constructs were measured with their questionnaires which may not necessarily be confined to your specific research topic but related to languages learning. I bet there are a lot. Find them, modify the items to best serve your study.
2. The more items included in your questionnaire, the higher the reliability is assumed to me. Be noted that this means all your items should measure the construct the suppose to measure.
