As a researcher and a histopathology scientist I use a great deal of xylene for tissue processing, and during staining, which is usually contaminated by residual alcohol and sometimes water. Xylene is one of the expensive reagents in our lab and taking into consideration the fact that resources are limited coming from a developing country, I have been trying to find innovative ways (simple and inexpensive method) of treating the xylene for reuse without compromising on quality and the same level of optimal results comparable to fresh xylene reagent.
