I would like to know what other reagents can be used to obtain chitin by deproteinizing a sample. Commonly found on articles is the employment of NaOH concentrations as well as KOH. I would like to know if phenol can be used? If so, what is the basic idea behind it?

I attached a file which contains the possible reagents that can be used in the deproteinization process of a sample. In addition to, I have read papers involving the addition of chloroform on phenol to improve the efficiency of protein removal. The problem is, maybe this method will not work on the samples that I am dealing with.

I am looking forward for your response on this subject matter so that I can build a better insight on my problem. Thank you!
