I learned that mycorrhiza help plants to perform well by helping them to withstand a certain level of stress, increase root feeding area, and even help plants deter or fight against pathogens. I wish to work with mycorrhiza and Irish Potato to see if it can actually help it to withstand some level of drought and improve productivity.
Working with David Douds Jr. it is confirmed that mycorrhizal fungi can stimulate improved performance of potatoes. This effect is more accentuated when seasons are lower than normal in precipitation. The areas which have natural mixed grass and herbs have good mycorrhizae and can provide a variety which has local adaptation. Mycorrhizae spores can be harvested by wet sieving techniques. We found that farm propagated inoculum was equally effective to commercial products.

You can isolate mycorrhizae from the soil cultured with plants. Because mycorrhizae can grow on the plant roots by making a symbiotic relationship with these roots.
