In steel forging, if the blank is more time at forging temperature in the induction heater, the size of grain increase. So, which are the differences in mechanical properties and microestructure when we forging a blank with bigger grain size, respect than other similar blank, but in the last case, with a more little size?
Generally the mechanical properties will be depends on the cooling rate, heating or cooling time. Generally the final grains structures depends on cooling rate. You can go through TTT curve to get the details idea.
It is true that the final grain size (presumably the ferrite grain size for a ferrite-pearlite final microstructure) is controlled to a significant degree by the cooling rate, but the prior austenite grain size is controlled by the heating time, temperature, and the presence of grain refiners. The final tensile properties (strength, ductility) will be partially controlled by the final ferrite grain size, but the toughness (ductile-brittle transition temperature) will be more a function of the prior austenite grain size.
