I believe that one of the ways to prevent STDs is through raising awareness of the effects of the diseases. With both adults and young people, one approach which could be helpful is to use people who have suffered from STDs to recount their unpleasant experiences to people of similar ages. The supply of condoms can also be used, considering the cost of condoms on the market.

In developing countries, I have been informed that some enterprises are flooding the market with sub-standard condoms, which would be counter-productive. So, how about supporting their governments with condom provision and also encouraging them to strictly regulate their pharmaceutical markets/products? I hope this helps!

I totally agree with your statement. If you refer to CDC site you will find so many educational materials that as a community health nurse/provider you will be able to use. However let me raise a few challenges: according to behavioral theorists, sex education and its consequences should start at a young age. So in my attempt to educated the "young" I met so much resistance from the school district and parents. It is important for us to realize that it is a touchy subject. So the challenge is how do you educate those whose behavior can still be changed? Is it better for them to learn from their equally naive peers or from the media?

STD is an ongoing problem and public awareness can only do so much if people will not take accountability for their actions. It really boils down to how we can educate the population about being accountable for their health behaviors.

Regarding stds sometimes poor quality of condoms use.i prefr better to avoid sex and keep good and clean hygine of the genitl parts.same is the case of hepatitis which is now talk of the day in pakistan

Topics to prevent NCD and STD, for my thinking is far too narrow. Before finding "Topics", I think it's best to find out the context of your target population. Topics are not general and that's where all the educational and promotional strategies fail. Each and every community and population has their own unique identity. It's the same when it comes to STD and NCD. Before going behind topics, i think it would be a good idea to identify your target audience/population. Their likes, dislikes, risk behaviours, income, ethnic back ground etc.. Preventive stragies should come from them , the feasible and practiclal ones, so that they feel the ownership and are more likely to go ahead with the activities.

Don't get irritated: NCD is almost all preventable diseases. STD is all including HIV and not an easy topic. But we can try to educate and try to change behavior................... we certainly will get somewhere with that?
