Paul: There are numerous fungal remains in coal balls, but mostly they are fragmented and difficult to work with. I have co-authored several papers on coal ball fungi from the British Lower Coal Measures, and Tom Taylor's group has been studying fungi in North American coal balls for quite some time. Best.
