Dear collegues, I am having serious problems trying to publish a case report. Does someone know a journal that accept a case report type paper without charges? All case reports journals I found are open access, thus with expensive fees. Thank yo very much in advance.
As Dr. Abushouk said, it's very hard to publish a case report in big journals..
BMJ case reports publishes case reports freely, but you need to have a subscription in the journal itself (which is about 250$)
Avicenna Journal of Medicine also publishes case reports for free
Clinical Journal of Gastroenterology publishes case reports for free, but as its name implies, the case needs to be in the field of Gastroenterology
You can look for other possible (free) options, but these options most likely won't have an IF
You can go to Oxford medical case reports, and journal of medical case reports but they are not free

If your case report is EXTREMELY rare and new to the medical field, you can give high impact journals a shot. Most of the journals publish rare case reports now and then.
However, if your case has been reported before (i.e.: interesting case but present in the literature) then your best bet are journals with
Case report can be suitably modified into letter to editor / images / clinical quiz to be accommodated into the journal.
Also, relevant case reports, if interesting will be accepted if appropriate journal is approached.

Try 'Case Reports in Acute Medicine' by Karger. It is free of cost, but not PubMed indexed.
The best way to find Open access Journals in the desired speciality is to browse through https://doaj.org/subjects. You can find many free journals among them
One of the first things I would suggest as a medical researcher is make a list of all journals which accept case reports .usualy the high impact ones either don't accept case reports or they have made sister journals for case reports only which unfortunately are all open access and attract APCs .so I would suggest you focus on low impact ones in your field of interest go through their instructions and make a list based on their impact factors .it may be time consuming initially but it's a one time effort .after that any case report you have to publish, u would know which is the first journal ( highest IF of the low impact ones ) to send and u also kno the next journal to send if it gets rejected .hope this helps.
