I'm particularly interested in studies that look at the long term effect of interventions, which may range from national campaigns to local design interventions.
There is some research, but not a huge amount. See here for example: http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2012/dec/29/single-men-rubbish-at-recycling
Hi Renee, It might help if you could be more specific. Are you asking this question as part of a literature search with the intention of undertaking a research study?
To respond: Articles look good. certainly as starting point for further literature exploration. thanks. We're looking at this with particular interest on potential design interventions. We have done work on littering before (influence of packaging design on littering behavior), and are now exploring two connected research directions. One on design interventions that help reduce food waste, the other on design interventions that supports lasting participation in packaging recycling schemes (and pollution of those material streams due to 'mistakes' by citizens).
