INS-RTK modules claim to be close to a cm accuracy, has anyone used one and if so, how expensive can the telematic charges be if I have a case to run it 18h per day?
Dear Mani Entezami, we have used for our studies the Leica Zeno GG04 plus Smart Antenna (RTK-based but without INS) and XSens MTi-680G (RTK and INS-enabled). Both reach cm accuracy. As network RTK service we use HxGN SmartNet. You can buy hour packages or unlimited access. For GB you find prices here: https://hxgnsmartnet.com/en-gb/services/network-rtk
Thank you Karl, so for example if I get hold off a XSENS MTI-680G-SK, then I can get the sim card contract from the link and get it up and running, correct?
Also have you had any experience on INS-RTK and tunnels? Do they lose all their functionality or would it still be better than a normal 9 dof IMU and a kalman filter?
Dear Mani Etezami, in a tunnel you loose all RTK functionality if you are more than a few (tens) of meters away from the entrance. And even if it works, it will be sub optimal. INS alone is also not a full option as you will loose accuracy after a few minutes (maybe up to 15 mins) of operation. It would be better to look for another aboslute positioning system such as a TOtal Station and augment that with INS.
Huibert-Jan Lekkerkerk Thank you for your reply. We usually use tacho to enable better estimation in tunnels. I've done some work around using route geometry to match the location. Do you have any experience with INS-RTK? Do you know how long would it take to lock back to good accuracy after coming out of a tunnel?
Yes I do, but on the water, surveying under bridges. Usually it takes less than 10 sec for the rtk. The ins can allow it to pick out up quickly if tightly integrated. For a loose integration expect anything up to a minute.
Dear Mani Entezami, we connect the XSENS MTI-680G via USB to a laptop and the MT manager software. The Laptop receives the RTK corrections from HxGN SmartNet service via mobile network connection.
