I've found a protocol online but so far am not having much luck with it! I was wondering if anyone else was having similar difficulties or is it just me?!
As far as I'm aware, it's a way of detecting lipid peroxidation & can be used to determine the extent of LDL oxidation.
Ah - yes if you are generating malondialdehyde as a byproduct of the lipid peroxidation. Have you tried a test system or tried spiking the sample with malondialdehyde to see if the assay is working?
Measurements of LDL oxidation by TBARS method is a classical technique Confidence in their results may be achieved with a simple as the electrophosesis in agarose gel comparing the mobility of native LDL with oxidative modificated LDL. LDLOX fraction shows higher mobility than native LDL. As Prof Kostner recomends , you must use ultracentrifuged LDL without EDTA, previosly separed with dialysis or sepharose.

Yes, I have tried Relative Electrophoretic Mobility assays on my samples which seems very reliable. You are right, I remove EDTA via dialysis too.
