Has anyone succesfully expressed Gq DREADDS in rats?

My lab is interested in using DREADDS (Gq) targeting excitatory neurons in rats, specifically Long Evans. Unfortunately, we have not been able to successfully express Gq in cell culture (mice) or in vivo (rats). I injected in both neocortex and deep cortical areas without any luck with expression. We have an AAV 5 virus: our promoter is CamKII, and our fluorescence is mCitrine. Any help will be appreciated! Thank you.

I suggest switching to AAV9 serotype and injecting into neonatal (day of birth or day after). 5 microlitres of vector will be tolerated well at this stage, and you should get very extensive transduction as long as your titre is high. However you may get too much expression - not sure if that's a problem for you.
