I would like to propose to my institute the possibility of contracting these courses, but they are really expensive. So, I would like to have some data or some opinions about them.
How expensive are they? I suggest you to also take a look at some courses from other companies, such as Applied (I've participated in one of their courses and I found it good), unless the equipment they sell differs too much from the regular ones.
The course is about 1700 euros and the cost of tickets and hotel (all course are in Europe and USA). I am trying that they organize a course in Brasil. 5 days- course (with theoretical and practical aspects) for 24 participants would be 2600 R$/student .
I see... it's really expensive. In my opinion it doesn't worth the money if all you want to learn is RT/Real-Time PCR. There are several labs doing that routinely and I think it would not be so difficult to learn from them. Usually, the company that sells the equipment offers a training course for free or for a less expensive cost.
I was in training in TATAA in Goteborg in April 2011. I'm an obstetrician, and when I received one grant in Russia, I bumped with qPCR method. The main problem was that nobody could answer my questions, which I had a lot (because lab in our University makes research in DNA, not in RNA). One consultant from Biorad advised my to read MIQE Guideline, and Kubista was one of co-authors of this paper. MIQE is an attempt to unify qPCR method, and authors are heads of leading laboratories from all over the world, who make research concerning improving of qPCR method itself.
So I decided to visit this courses. The good thing was that my University payed for it. I choose 5 days courses.
I would like to say, that it was worth it. It is very helpful course, and I appreciate it very much. It is really useful, and they answered to all my questions. Since this time I received few grants, and I saw comments of experts, they give very high feedback to methods of research.
Last week I was with a research that also participated in this course. He told me that the course is very good and helpful. I will try to organize one course in Brazil.
I have also participated in one of their 3-days qPCR course in Gottingen and it definitely helped me advance. A point to make - the fact that the people in some lab do plenty of qPCR, doesn´t mean they do it properly. I´ve seen plenty examples to supoort this. I strongly vote for a dedicated training !
