I am working with FID methanizer (Thermo)  for CO determination. I do not do the analysis of CO2 because of chosen type of column. Detection limit about 0,5 ppm. No troubleshooting. Main problem is how to work with FID methanizer when is not needed for example to measure methanol etc. ?

I think we share the main problem. It is hard to figure out how to use this detector when you are not analyzing CO or CO2. So far I have had no problems with it, but I think we might need to buy an extra detector for other applications.

To be honest, you need to think in several factors that can affect your precision. Therefore, a straight answer to your question can be difficult to find. For example, if you are injecting your samples using a gas valve, you need to take into account for tempearature variations during your analysis. I have seen this problem with my GC and it is something difficult to solve. One more thing to check is your samples composition. If you suspect of sulfur presence in your samples, this might give you problems with you nickel catalyzer. Even sulfur traces presence can affect your results. Finally, your GC column is one more thing to check. If you have a poor performance in your column, this might also decrease the CO2 conversion efficiency in the FID.

I would recommend to repack the FID methanizer if you are sure that no valve or column problems are present.
