Dear Rob Sigma sells a thrombin that has been cell culture tested. This may be a better option than the one you refer to. Batches of a protein differ in their pyrogenicity and unless specifically tested for one can never be sure of this. I have used the TC tested product indirectly for platelet factor preparation. The factors prepared worked well in TC assays.
Hi Many thanks for your answer. unfortunately I need a very high thrombin concentration (1000U/ml) to crosslink gels for an experiment. Hence why I was considering using this other product. Although speaking to Sigma this morning they don't have endotoxin levels on this other product so it may not work for TC culture.
