Has anyone correlated the increased oceanic productivity with CO2 sequestration?

Is there a relationship between increased oceanic sequestration of CO2 and increased phytoplankton concentration, which will eventually increase the organic detritus?

Thanks Kenneth but in shallow areas like Persian gulf where the av depth is 20-30m the phytoplanktons sequester a significant amount of co2 I guess that assumption that it will be eaten up before reaching sediment water interface might not hold true here. Any suggestions or
