I am looking to administer estriol over a long period of time (more than a year) and am considering the use of topical creams. Has anyone used this method or know of a paper or lab that has used this method? I am wondering if this is an effective method of administration, what dosage to use for mice, and how to properly apply the cream.
Although it is feasible, have you considered how to prevent mice from licking off the cream while grooming if alone in its home cage or how to prevent other mice from licking it off in the process of co-grooming. To prevent wide variations in response with topical applications it is advisable to consider other forms of application if possible.
A major challenge will be how to prevent the animals from licking the cream and converting your topical application to 'oral ingestion'.
Dear,Cassandra Meyer It is an interesting subject for administered of hormone in a way other than known and recommended methods. And up on my modest experience and if there is no drug interaction between hormone and the cream (types !).I think you can do it by using appropriate amounts(volume) of a combination of hormone(calculated dose) plus the creams to be not exceed more than 0.3-0.5 ml. as it was injected through the vagina (Intra-vaginally) for the female mice.
