I'm looking into this construct and I wonder how this differs from academic self-efficacy. I guess in general then, what's the difference between perceived competence and self-efficacy? I would think they are the same thing.
self efficacy refers to the I can do it attitude while competence is the ability to perform a given task and meet the performance expectations. Having an attitude that you can perform a given task does not necessarily mean that you will do it and meet the performance expectation. competence is about what to do and how to do it. However people who are high on self-efficacy are often ready to acquire new knowledge and skills that will enable them perform according to expectations
Hmmm..I'm not sure I'm understanding... Are you saying that "perceived competence" is "ability to perform a given task"? I think "comptenece might be ability to perform. But "perceived"- is how well you think you can perform or "how well you think you can do it". Maybe clarify further if you can or tell me where I'm getting it wrong...
